The engines stopped working last night, around midnight. The wonderful vista of stars was in stark contrast to the terror I felt. I have been stranded, drifting, in the sea just off the coast of Somalia for 3 hours now, and as twilight breaks I know I am an easy target for the pirates.

My precious cargo lies underneath me, unaware of the danger it is in. I will not tell them yet – who knows what the dawn will bring? Not only pirates patrol these waters. The warships and patrol boats of numerous countries also patrol, attempting to curb the savage pirates and the destruction and fear they sow on the shipping lines. I know my chances are slim, but what more can I do but trust lady luck?
